The primary design challenge in this kitchen was to create a functional space for two cooks in the lower level of their home that would bring light to the space, with a budget of $19,000. As the kitchen had previously been remodeled in 1985, the cabinetry and finishes were outdated and needed to be refreshed.
Due to budgetary constraints, IKEA cabinetry, appliances, and countertops were selected. To bring light into the space, white cabinetry in a modern Shaker style was chosen. The countertop specified is a low-maintenance quartz, neutral in color, with a polished surface to reflect light from the lighting fixtures and the window above the apron-front sink. The client loves color, especially blues, therefore, a glass backsplash tile in blues and taupes was selected.
Overall, the design lightens the space and provides functionality for both cooks.
All construction drawings were completed in AutoCAD, and renderings were created in 2020 Design.
