The basic floor plan for this client's home was provided, with the Kitchen and Master Bathroom already renovated. All other areas needed a space plan. In addition, the Master Bedroom and Family Room required selections of new furniture, fabrics for furnishings and window treatments, lighting, and finishes. Design style and color palette requests were obtained through meetings with the client.
The goals for the space were to plan spaces to meet the needs of this five-person family, determine the color palette and ensure consistency across all spaces, design a family room where the TV is not the main focus, and provide an area for books to be on display.
The biggest challenges with this project were bridging the client's desire for a rustic yet classical feel and providing spaces for each member of the family to enjoy.
The final design included a hidden TV in a cabinet above the fireplace and built-in cabinetry in both the family room and library for book display. The client's three children were given a game room off of the kitchen for their own private space.
The project was completed with a basic perspective drawing in SketchUp, followed by hand renderings for each space.
